AFRIDI Project Closing Event at the University of Tlemcen: Five Years of Mobility, Training and Intra-African Cooperation

The Abou Bekr Belkaïd University of Tlemcen is honoured to host, on 22 and 23 September 2026, the closing meeting of the AFRIDI Project – Support for Training, Research and Innovation for Intra-African Development, implemented under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Programme and funded by the European Union. AFRIDI has been an important initiative supporting academic mobility, capacity building and cooperation between higher education institutions in Africa and Europe.
◈ The project has achieved 76 academic mobilities and 25 training activities, with mobility opportunities at Master’s and PhD levels, over five years of implementation, from January 2020 to December 2024. It has promoted academic and scientific exchanges between several countries, including Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Madagascar, providing students and university staff with opportunities for mobility, training, knowledge sharing and intercultural exchange.
◈ The closing meeting, hosted by the Vice-Rectorate for External Relations of the University of Tlemcen, brings together the project partners: University of Tunis El Manar, Project Coordinator, Abou Bekr Belkaïd University of Tlemcen, University of Douala, Gaston Berger University, University of Ouaga I Pr Joseph Ki-Zerbo, University of Antananarivo**, andUniversity of Perpignan, technical partner. The meeting programme includes a review of project activities and mobility achievements, testimonials and experiences from beneficiaries, exchanges among partners, and discussions on the future of intra-African university cooperation.
■ AFRIDI represents a significant experience of academic cooperation, contributing to stronger connections between institutions, academics, university staff and students around shared values of mobility, knowledge sharing, training, research, innovation and cooperation. As the project reaches its closing stage, it also opens new perspectives for consolidating partnerships and continuing the dynamic of cooperation between African and European universities.
